Dortmund considering Emre Can

Emre Can s time at Juventus has not been an enjoyable one and it could be coming to an end very soon. Since joining the champions of Italy in the summer of 2018 on a free transfer, after his contract with Liverpool expired, the German has not made the impression of a player ready to be a regular at Juventus.

Now Borussia Dortmund are thinking about making a swoop for the midfielder in the January transfer window. According to Bild, Lucien Favre is eager to bolster his options across the middle of the park when the market reopens with the start of 2020. The German is reportedly near the top of his list of targets.

This would make some sense for Dortmund, as Can could be a cheap option considering Juventus need to offload some players and free the portion of their growing…

Arsenal sack Unai Emery

Arsenal have sacked head coach Unai Emery following a seven-match winless streak, the Premier League club confirmed on Friday.

The Gunners lost patience with Emery following Thursday s shock 2-1 Europa League loss at home to Eintracht Frankfurt in front of a sparse crowd.

Emery leaves Arsenal languishing eighth in the Premier League, eight points adrift of the Champions League places.

The Spaniard s coaching team have also departed, with former Gunners midfielder Freddie Ljungberg promoted to take charge of first-team affairs on an interim basis.

Speaking on behalf of the Arsenal board and owners Kroenke Sports Entertainment, Josh Kroenke said: Our most sincere thanks go to Unai and his colleagues who were unrelenting in their efforts to get the club b…

Rain and threat of lightning fail to dampen Manchester City’s trophy parade

Rain and the threat of lightning storms could not dampen Manchester City’s open-top bus parade to celebrate their treble success on Monday evening.

Thousands of fans had lined the streets to cheer on Pep Guardiola’s squad who secured the Champions League trophy with victory over Inter Milan in Istanbul on Saturday night to add to the Premier League title and FA Cup.

Access to the stage show site on St Peter’s Square was initially delayed due to reports of adverse weather conditions and lightning storms in the area, with the club later confirming the start of the trophy parade from Beetham Tower on Deansgate was put back until 7pm.

Prosinecki keen on South Korea job

Former Croatia international Robert Prosinecki may be the next coach of South Korea, after he confirmed he would like to replace Hong Myung-bo.

Since Hong resigned on July 10 following South Korea s dreadful FIFA World Cup campaign, the Asian country s football association has reportedly been inundated with applications from foreign coaches.

South Korea had one draw and two defeats in Brazil and finished bottom of Group H with minus three goal difference.

Prosinecki confirmed in an interview with South Korean newspaper Ilgan Sports that he is one of them.

I ve heard a lot about Korea and I thought that I [would] want to lead this team if I get a chance to, he said.

I saw Korea playing in Brazil. They were a good team but couldn t win a match. Bu…

Lambert can´t split Guzan and Given

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert is yet to decide who will start in goal for him for their Premier League opener against Stoke City.

United States goalkeeper Brad Guzan has held the number one spot at Villa Park for the best part of two seasons, starting in all bar two top-flight matches.

Former Republic of Ireland custodian Shay Given replaced Guzan for those two games, but they were his only league starts since featuring 32 times for Villa in the 2011-12 season.

Given went on loan to Middlesbrough last season and despite Guzan s apparent hold on the number one role, Lambert refused to reveal who would start when Villa s league campaign begins at the Britannia Stadium on August 16.

I ve got two really top goalkeepers in Shay and Brad, Lambert said.

Boateng closing in on shock Barcelona switch – reports

Barcelona are understood to be on the verge of signing former Tottenham, AC Milan and Schalke attacking midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng from Serie A side Sassuolo.

A report by Sky in Italy claims the 31-year-old will travel to Barcelona on Monday to conclude a loan switch until the end of the season, with an €8million option to make the move permanent.

Barca head coach Ernesto Valverde has been looking for attacking reinforcements as cover for Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele – the latter now facing two weeks on the sidelines with a sprained left ankle.

Munir El Haddadi joined Sevilla this month, while Paco Alcacer left for Borussia Dortmund during the previous transfer window, leaving the reigning LaLiga champions light up front.

Ronaldo? Zidane? Real Madrid boss names the ultimate Galactico

Cristiano Ronaldo would have been a bigger Galactico if he played in the same team as Zinedine Zidane, according to the Real Madrid coach himself.

Zidane will look to Ronaldo for inspiration as Madrid aim to become the first modern-era team to retain the Champions League when they take on Juventus in Cardiff on Saturday.

The former France captain was the jewel in the crown in the Galactico era his wondrous volley in the 2002 Champions League final win over Bayer Leverkusen assuring that status.

Ronaldo has found the net in Madrid s two Champions League wins in the past three seasons scoring against Atletico Madrid in 2014 before netting the decisive penalty against Diego Simeone s men in Milan 12 months ago.

Asked if he or the Portugal captain would be th…

Austria wasting Alaba but De Jong runs the show as Netherlands excite

Despite plenty of doubts heading into Euro 2020, Frank de Boer s Netherlands side could well just be a surprise package.

The Netherlands joined Belgium and Italy in qualifying for the last 16 as they claimed a 2-0 victory over Austria in Amsterdam on Thursday, ensuring they will top Group C.

In truth, they came up against an Austria team who are failing to get the best from the talent Franco Foda has at his disposal, though that will not dispel the positivity surrounding the Oranje after two vibrant attacking displays.

With Matthijs de Ligt back at the heart of their defence and Frenkie de Jong commanding midfield, the Netherlands looked solid at the back, and this encounter seemed to pit a team with a set system – if sometimes overly offensive – against a …
