Hoeness threatens Bayern boycott if Germany drop Neuer

Uli Hoeness has threatened to block Bayern Munich players from representing Germany if Manuel Neuer loses his national team place to Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Bayern president Hoeness weighed into Die Mannschaft s goalkeeper debate last week when he hit out at the German Football Association for their perceived failure to show adequate support to Neuer, captain of club and country.

Neuer s chief positional rival in the Germany setup, Barcelona star Ter Stegen, had prompted a public exchange of views when he expressed frustration with a lack of international opportunities.

Hoeness criticised the 27-year-old for his comments and, accusing the media of a coordinating a campaign against Neuer, insisted Bayern would not let their players be damaged without reason .

Spalletti wants to have fun in ´Disneyland of football´

Inter coach Luciano Spalletti is hopeful that a return to the Disneyland of football  can provide a distraction from their poor start to the Serie A season.

The Nerazzurri play their first Champions League game since the 2011-12 season on Tuesday when Tottenham visit the San Siro.

The clash with Mauricio Pochettino s side offers Spalletti and his players a welcome respite from their torrid league form, which has seen them win just one of their opening four games.

Spalletti has come under increasing pressure following a 1-0 home defeat to Parma on Saturday, but he is confident that his team can leave their domestic woes behind and enjoy themselves in the amusement park of European football s premier competition.

These games are worth so much in term…

Rachel Daly frustrated to start England’s opening World Cup game on the bench

Rachel Daly admits it was difficult for her to have been benched in favour of Alessia Russo for England’s World Cup opener against Haiti on Saturday.

Georgia Stanway’s retaken penalty secured the Lionesses a nervy 1-0 victory at Brisbane Stadium to begin their quest for a maiden World Cup, but they have not scored in open play since Ella Toone netted against Brazil in April’s Finalissima at Wembley.

The Russo-or-Daly dilemma was a much-debated topic ahead of the 2023 finals, with Tottenham’s Beth England also amongst boss Sarina Wiegman’s attacking options.

Asked how she felt about her manager’s decision, Daly said: “I think anyone would be (frustrated). No one is happy to sit on the bench. If you are, then you are not in the right place, not in the…

Hometown hero Rooney right to call time on England days

Wayne Rooney celebrated with unbridled joy when he scored the winning goal against Stoke City on his return to Premier League action for Everton at Goodison Park.

On Monday, the 31-year-old made it two in two this season and there was no little mischief in his ear-cupping reaction as he lapped up netting against Manchester City. It was his 200th goal in the top flight, the latest landmark in the incredible career of Manchester United and England s leading goalscorer.

The joy and mischief were all the more noticeable as they were qualities that fizzed from Rooney the teenage sensation, but elements that seem to have been missing entirely during the trials of recent seasons.

For the second half of Roy Hodgson s ill-fated tenure as England manager, debate raged ove…

England edge past Nigeria on penalties after Lauren James sees red

Chloe Kelly added another memorable moment to her Lionesses career as her spot-kick secured 10-woman England a place in the World Cup quarter-finals after a dramatic shoot-out with Nigeria in Brisbane.

It was not all elation for England, however, after Lauren James was shown a straight red card for a stamp on Michelle Alozie following a VAR review late in the second half which could see her banned for the remainder of this tournament.

Midfielder Keira Walsh returned for the first time since she was carried off the pitch on a stretcher in England’s 1-0 group-stage victory against Denmark and played 120 minutes of a dramatic contest.

England were far from their best and were lucky not to exit the tournament in 90 minutes, but dug deep to ensure the match finished…

Rangers chairman John Bennett confident ‘cultural change’ will improve finances

Chairman John Bennett pointed to the figure he believes is key to future financial success at Rangers.

The Ibrox club’s recently published accounts for the year to June 30, 2023 revealed a turnover of £83.8million, an operating profit of £250,000 but an overall net loss for the year of £4.2million, despite the sale of Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo contributing to a record player trading profit of £23.6million.

Speaking at the club’s AGM at New Edmiston House on Tuesday morning, Bennett said: “I am focused on more than one number, but there is one number that should be focused on in that profit and loss account.

“Yes, this club, for the second year in a row, printed an operating profit but that was post-player trading.

“This club last year lost…

Van Nistelrooy worried about Madueke sale amid Chelsea interest

PSV head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy is concerned about the prospect of losing Noni Madueke, amid reported interest in his services.

The 20-year-old has been touted as a potential target for Chelsea this year, as Todd Boehly continues to splash the cash in a bid to rejuvenate the squad at Stamford Bridge.

Madueke has been limited to just four Eredivisie appearances this season due to injury but is well known in England due to his Under-21 international appearances and youth spells with Crystal Palace and Tottenham.

PSV s reluctance to approve a deal comes after already offloading one of their prized assets in the mid-season transfer window, having sold Cody Gakpo to Liverpool for a €40million (£35m) fee.

Van Nistelrooy is aware of similar interest in Mad…

Bitesize Prediction: Coventry vs Southampton – 13/12/23

Market: Under 2.5 goals

Odds: 1/1 @

Hoping to widen their buffer in the lay-off chase on Wednesday night, Southampton will travel to the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Starting with the hosts, while Coventry might have opened the 2023/24 campaign in the midst of a public struggle, Mark Robins’ men have come roaring back in some style. Last seen over the weekend putting in another eye-catching display as they claimed a 2-0 victory at home against Birmingham, the Sky Blues have now lost just one of their previous five Championship appearances. Dragging themselves away from a looming relegation scrap, last season’s play-off finalists should also be excited by their recent defensive resolve. Marking their return from November’s international break with a ste…
