Sissoko eyes top six berth

Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko believes that they can finish in the top six next season.

Sissoko, 23, joined Newcastle from Toulouse in January and made an impact on his home debut, scoring two goals in a 3-2 win over Chelsea in February as Alan Pardew s men eased their relegation fears.

Newcastle left it late to ensure their Premier League status last term, though, with Sissoko s form wavering towards the end of what was a disappointing campaign for the club.

The France international is aiming to up his performance this season and feels Newcastle have the quality to replicate the fifth-place finish they secured in 2011-12.

I think we can finish in the top five or six, he told The Evening Chronicle.

It is possible, but we can’t look that far ahead.

Sissoko is also hoping that a strong domestic season will secure him a place in France s squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

This season is my biggest yet, he added.

It s very important to do well with Newcastle.

I know if I do well with the team then I will be selected for France, hopefully at the finals of the World Cup in Brazil, but it s really all about the new season.
